Palheiros in Santana, Madeira

PORTUGAL: Traditional Madeirense thatched cottages (Palheiros) in the town of Santana, in the north of the island of Madeira. Originally built as farm houses, many of the remaining cottages were restored as tourist attractions or shops, but some are still lived in, particularly in Santana and nearby So Jorge.
