The San Francisco travel system evolved from wire cars.
What used to be drawn by horses in a 1800s were transformed in to wire cars in order to deal with San Francisco's fearsome hills.

The type of wire car shown in this print still retains a strange pattern and yet it is some-more of a traveller ride now than a commuters means of travel around a city, it is still a fastest way of getting in to a heart of San Francisco.
