Stronghold of Valena

The fortification of Valena, the encampment upon the left bank of the river Minho, the Portuguese frontier Galicia , dates back to the transition from the twelfth to the thirteenth century. Intended to defend the encampment as well as channel that widen of river.

Valena

Valena is the Portuguese encampment in the district of Viana do Castelo, northern segment as well as subregion of the Minho-Lima.
The urban area is bounded upon the easterly by the Municipality of Mono, the south by Paredes de Coura, west by Vila Nova de Cerveira as well as northwest as well as north by Galicia (municipality of Tui).
Received the licence from King Sancho we being declared Contrasta. Moved to its present name in 1262. It is infrequently referred to Valena do Minho.
It became the city upon Jun 12, 2009.
